The Emericks ![]() Em Brook Angus was established to breed cattle with the female in mind. It is the cow that is most important to any cattle operation. We at Em Brook Angus have always selected Sires that have outstanding proven females as their dams. The dams of our herd bulls must be fertile, have excellent udders and be feminine through their heads and necks with a deep body, which allows them to keep their flesh through cold winters and hot summers. Four of these females that have these desirable traits are Em Brook Miss Wix 501, Em Brook Delia 502, Em Brook Esterine 627 and Em Brook Miss Burgess 701. These proven females carry the maternal traits from Octoraro Angus with Wye Angus influence and Keeney Angus with a Shoshone Angus influence. The resulting progeny are among the most consistent for type and performance of all that we have produced. The cows and heifer calves at Em Brook are maintained on a high roughage through winter months that consist of hayage and alfalfa/clover hay. Feed samples are taken in the fall and resulting analysis are used to balance a ration that will maintain older females and allow the heifer calves to develop without getting fat. Bull calves are also fed a high roughage ration with a free choice mineral supplement. The ration is balanced for growth and development. These bulls then can go out and breed cows for our customers while maintaining their health and soundness. The pastures at Em Brook are mainly native grasses with the introduction of some Legume mixes. We maintain our intensive grazing program thru our Paddock system. We have 200 acres in our grazing system. Our weather usually allows grazing from early spring to late fall in a way God intend cattle to prosper. Spring calving starts the middle of April and finishes by June for the cow and heifer herds. The calves are weighed and tagged. The cow and calf are then moved to clean padlocks of fresh grass and allowed to flourish in nature the natural way. This is a busy, but exciting time of the year. The cow/calf pairs spend the summer and early fall grazing and running in harmony with periodic rotations to greener pastures. By mid fall, the cows and calves are weighed and scored. The calf data is sent to the American Angus Association for registration and data recording. The calves are weaned, vaccinated, wormed and continued on a grass fed forage based diet with a balanced mineral supplement throughout the winter. We also breed a fall calving group of cows and heifers. This group is A.I. for calving in late September and October. This group is offered for sale to other cow/calf producers via our web site and outside advertising. (link to For Sale section) We offer you an open invitation to visit Em Brook Farms if you are ever in our area.
